University of Southern Denmark Sonderborg

Quality Education offered by Quality Personnel and Facilities!

The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is one of the most renowned universities not only in Denmark but also worldwide. If you are focused on engineering and are looking for development in the field of programming, robotics, electronics, mechatronics and you name it, you can just stop looking for alternatives – THIS IS THE PLACE you are looking for!

The university is located right on the border between Denmark and Germany. (Be sure that travel to Germany will be very common in your daily life to get goods at much lower prices (beer, chocolate, etc.)) SDU is also at the heart of a high-tech group of industries which are global market leaders among others in fast-growing areas such as electric cars and sustainable energy technologies. This location predetermines the essence of the university. Research and education is highly international, with an emphasis on tight relations with partners outside the country – on a global scale. More than 50 nationalities make up the international environment of the university – students and professors. The university buildings are modern, and the technologies inside will take your breath away as soon as you cross the doors!

Last but not least is the job guarantee when you finish! Yes exactly. After graduating from the university you will receive a job offer for at least 6 months from a Danish company, and the starting salary of an engineer without experience in Denmark is 5500 euros per month!

Another advantage is the the university help, provided for student accommodation (mostly in Sønderborg). Of course, we will not leave you alone with this challenge. Most probably we will help you arrange a cheaper option. However, it is important to have a choice and it should be almost entirely yours!

Faculty of Sonderborg (Sonebo)

As an engineering student, you will spend the next few years in Sønderborg. Over the past year, some of the students here have been working on the solar panels of the future. These are solar cells made of organic materials – organic molecules. They are thin, light and very flexible, which allows them to be twisted. They can also be translucent, which allows them to be placed on windows.

The students here are part of a large world leader research group. One of the reasons for this is that they have the most modern equipment – both to be able to make these small solar cells, but also to find out how to be mass-produced.

Danfoss is close by and the university means a lot to the Danish (and global) giant. It is possible to start working in the company while you study! The collaboration between Southern Danish University and Danfoss continues throughout the year for various small or much larger projects. The company has a direct contribution to the development of modules in engineering programs – power electronics and industrial electronics.

Faculty of Flensburg

The Flensburg campus enables students studying International Administration and Foreign Languages to obtain a bachelor’s degree in a field developed by both the Danish SDU and the German Europa-Universität Flensburg. You must be prepared to improve your German, as the program has a special focus on the language. The huge plus is the acquisition of a double degree – Danish and German – Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts!

The Faculty of Odense

The city of Odense (pronounced Oense in Danish) means – “the refuge of the Danish god Odin”. It is the third largest in Denmark and has a population of approximately 170,000. Odense is the capital of the island Fyn. This is the birthplace of the world-famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, where you can visit his house and the museum next to it.

The modern Odense is a green, well-developed, extremely clean and tidy city. The Danes describe Odense as “hyggelig”, i.e. as comfortable and cozy. The city offers a great variety of small shops, great cafeterias and nightclubs, large food chains, as well as sports facilities for practicing most popular sports.

One of the programs you can study here is Market and Management Anthropology.

The student experience

When choosing to study at the University of Southern Denmark, you should be aware that you are going to an institution where the atmosphere between you and the teachers is completely informal and friendly! Your teachers consider you equal and expect you to perceive them in the same way. You are expected to ask a lot of questions, question everything and take an active part in discussions to find the best solution for the case you are working on.

Just because teachers are sitting across from you doesn’t mean the bar has been lowered – nothing like that! The requirements and expectations for you are set very high! Be ready to work on your projects after the lectures in order to meet the expectations! Danes are not fond of mediocrity – on the contrary, they like to communicate with proactive students, who are ready at any moment to take an extra step to achieve the “WOW” effect!
