The student might study in a big or small city – the costs for housing, transport, food and entertainment will vary. Accommodation prices in the capital are significantly higher. If you do not register on time for a student dormitory (around Christmas), expect the monthly rent for a single room to be around 4000-5000 Danish kroner (500-600 EURO).

Food, food, food!

The food outside the capital is about 2000 Danish kroner (250 EURO) per month. This does not include the expenses for alcohol or cigarettes. You don’t have to do it every day. Even a few home-cooked meals a month can seriously affect your budget! Another great idea is to pass by the nearby restaurant on the way home in the evening just before closing time. Textbooks?

We know from experience that you can get almost all teaching materials from the students in the upper semesters and from the libraries. Sometimes it is possible to find some of your textbooks completely for free on the internet. Of course, the latest editions may not be available yet, which suggests that you will have to buy them. Borrowing books or textbooks from university libraries is completely free, provided that you meet the deadlines and return or rewrite your rented books / CDs, etc. The only paid service is printing. Usually, the prices for students are extremely low, ranging from 0.5 kroner for a black and white copy and 1 kroner for a color copy. As graduate students, we will provide you information about the study materials that will make your life in Denmark extremely easy.

These are the basic things for which a student’s parents must provide funding at least for the first few months in Denmark. Once the student finds a part-time student job, they become completely self-sufficient during their whole education!
