I am IN! Now what?

Once you have opened this article, you are already on the verge of living your dream – to be a student at a world-renowned university in Denmark or elsewhere abroad. After the whole period of preparation, application and waiting for admission answers, comes the moment before departure. It is one of the most important because it will mark your beginning in Denmark, and perhaps your entire stay. We will help you thoroughly prepare, as we have gone through this process a lot of times – first on our own and then supporting each of our students!

“All the time from getting off at Copenhagen Airport, arriving in Odense, moving into my apartment, filling out documents, the first days at university and even after that, I felt like Deja Vu, like I had already gone through before. And I really was, Danbul Study provided me with so much detailed information about everything in Denmark. Even about things I wouldn’t never imagine to ask. The tips, which I got saved me a lot of money for tickets, renting accommodation, shopping… I am still in touch with them and they continue to help me with different issues that I have faced in Denmark – household or other. I am grateful that I came across Danbul Study, I would not have dealt alone that well  with everything I encountered in Denmark!” – Antonina Todorova

Before your departure, we will organize meetings for you and your parents:

  • Meetings for all students and their parents so that they can get to know each other and exchange contacts.
  • We share which of our students are accepted in the same city and offer them to travel in a group.
  • We connect the newly admitted students with those who are already studying the same specialty in Denmark. They will be happy to answer any questions you might have!
  • We will give you groups on social networks that are specific to each university and city in Denmark.
  • You will receive detailed manuals about the student’s life in Denmark.
  • You will receive a detailed list of the most necessary things you should take from home with you before your trip abroad.

Peace of Mind before the Trip

There is no need for unnecessary worries, this can only burden you mentally and deprive you of pleasant excitement before leaving for Denmark. Having worked with us throughout the whole application process, we are certain that you will not be one of the many confused students, who are going to study abroad. This can be confirmed by the hundreds of students we have already sent to Denmark. Why? Because we will prepare you with enough information and practical advice, based on our own life experience in the country.

Talk to your family before leaving for Denmark

Just be aware that most probably your emotions will change on a daily basis before you leave. You might experience doubts in yourself and your abilities in spite of everything. When having such feelings, just talk to your parents. Although your family might be even more anxious to send you abroad, they will listen to all your concerns and support you! You can go through everything you have prepared for Denmark and prepare an “action plan” to be ready once in the country, together with your parents. Think about possible situations in which we will not be able to help you (if you can think of any) and create strategies to deal with such.

Say “goodbye” to your relatives and friends

The fact that you will be thousands of kilometers away from home will not be a reason to break off your relations with the people in your home country. We have the technology that allows us to keep in touch with others, no matter where we are. You will even start talking more to some people while you are abroad than when you were back home. It is good to agree beforehand which platforms you want to use and schedule time for calls with your friends and relatives. Take into consideration the time difference with Denmark, so they are unlikely to call you while you sleep. It’s a good idea to arrange it all in advance so that they don’t call you when you’re at work or talking to someone else.

Do not bring many items from home, you will find everything you need at affordable prices in Denmark

Bring back all your grandmother’s utensils, your mother’s kitchen robots and your father’s dumbbells! There is no point in bringing unnecessary things from home, they will only make your travel inconvenient. However, do pack those things that are harder to find in Denmark, such as some medicines and cosmetics!

Take the course “Basic Life Skills” before leaving

When you leave home, you will have to do the laundry, shopping or cooking on your own. Whether in another city or abroad, you will have to take care of yourself. Ask your parents how to do the laundry without shrinking or coloring your clothes. Search the internet for recipes for delicious and quick meals and practice at home. See on our website the prices of basic groceries in Denmark (here) and check on the map the nearest grocery stores to your accommodation.

Be careful for Thefts

Although crime in Denmark is one of the lowest in Europe, be careful when you arrive with all your luggage in the country. We advise you to have some cash, but most of your money should be in your bank account. In Denmark you can pay with your card anywhere. Always lock your bike, no matter where you leave it, because bike thefts is something very common here!

Make no Mistake, not everything will go according to your plans

Studying abroad can be stressful experience for every foreign student. Apart from the fact that the teaching manners will most probably be different from what you are used to, you will encounter a bunch of other problems. The culture shock, the different language, the weather, even the different faces of the locals can be a little disturbing. Universities in Denmark know about all this trouble you might experience. They have planned an introduction period, during which they will prepare you for what to expect from the country and help you integrate. Being away from your friends may seem like a real challenge in the beginning. Fortunately, you will quickly make new friends with other foreign students from around the world at the university. The absence of your family can be compensated to some extent by Skype conversations, but the real happiness will be when visiting them during the first upcoming holiday and brag about how much you like the student life in Denmark. You need to know that the transition will not go as smoothly as you think, at least not in the beginning. The idea of studying abroad is to develop as individuals and leave your comfort zone. Once the difficult moments are over, you will be much stronger and more confident, but already crowned with success!
