Horsens is located 50 km from Aarhus and 19 km from Vejle. It is surrounded by the typical landscape, including low hills and alleys. The city is located close to the nature, which favours the active sports students and especially those, who practice water sports. Annually, VIA University College sponsors boat races in which all students are welcome to take part. You can also become a member of one of the many sports clubs here. The nickname of the local football team is “The Stallions”, that’s why the men from Horsens like to call themselves The Stallions.
The city offers a variety of cultural activities, such as museum visits and performances at the city theater, where more than 200 performances take place annually. Bob Dylan, Madonna and the Rolling Stones were part of the cultural life in Horsens! Despite the small size of the city, do not think that you will have much time to feel bored. The smaller cities in Denmark appeal more to the students, as they are a prerequisite for creating more easily strong friendships and the organization of various parties.
Horsens is proud of its music festival and art festival. In addition to these events, two other interesting and fun festivals are organized in Horsens. The first is the European Medieval Festival, for which purpose the city is temporarily transformed into a medieval attractive market. The second is the Crime Festival – Krimimessen, an event dedicated to the mysteries and crimes, organized by the local library, which invites famous novelists of this genre.
In order to get a room in Horsens, it is also necessary to submit your documents for it in advance, in the online portals of the city! VIA has its own student dormitories, which are usually “fully booked” in the span of a few days. If you are unlucky enough to be admitted at the end of the summer (30.07), when the admission deadline is, your chances of being in a dormitory room are not very high. However, you do have the option to look for an accommodation in the city on your own, but be prepared to pay higher rent in this case.
