Herning – The Heart of Jylland

The city is located in the center of western Jutland. With about 50,000 inhabitants, it is the 11th largest municipal district in Denmark. Whether you like living close to nature or in the city, Herning has a lot to offer to every student. The cultural scene offers countless opportunities. The city is home to Denmark’s largest exhibition center, called the MCH (Messecenter Herning). There you will find shops and restaurants where you can dine with friends or attend exciting events. Theatrical performances, sports competitions, concerts, fairs and exhibitions are held throughout the year. Here you will also find the huge sculpture Elia, which “spits” fire when struck by lightning.

Jyske Bank Boxen is located in Herning, which is one of the newest multi-sport facilities. Here you will have the opportunity to watch live all kinds of indoor sports – hockey, basketball, handball, etc. Usually, the national handball team plays its matches in Herning, as well as major sporting events, such as The World and European Championships, are held here. The hall allows organization of large concerts, which attracts world-famous performers every year. To enter these events for free, you can sign up as a volunteer and help in the organization and their execution. These possible activities would give you the opportunity to make friends with many Danes, who in turn would help you solve some of the problems you will face in Denmark.

Herning is one of the cities where you would find a room a bit easier. However, the prices of accommodation here, although relatively lower than in other cities, are also high. Apply early for student accommodation in order to get a larger room in the city center and a low monthly rent. If you submit documents on time, you can expect a monthly rent of about 200-250 EURO.
