Automation Engineering (AP)
What is the program all about?
The Automation Engineering program in Denmark is related to the automation of the industry. That means fewer people – more robots. During these 2 and a half years at the University College of Northern Denmark (UCN) you will be trained by people with a lot of experience in the industry. You will be prepared to work in real conditions, which includes working with expensive and modern equipment that is entirely at your disposal, teamwork and meeting deadlines.
You will mainly study programming with PLC (programmable logic controller) and various types of robots (from simple LEGO robots to the latest robots in the field of automation), but also parts of mathematics and electrical engineering. Furthermore, you will visit many large companies (SIMENS, BILLA, etc.) and you will have the opportunity to get even more acquainted with your future work environment. You will be able to participate in practical tasks such as assembly and installation, commissioning, optimization and work with automatic systems in technical production environments.

What can you continue studying or where can you work?
After completing the AP degree in Automation Engineering at the University College of Northern Denmark (UCN), you will be able to continue to enrich your knowledge in the field and enroll in the Top up program Product Development and Integrative Technology. You can also review other top up or bachelor’s degrees in Denmark. If you want to continue your education outside of Denmark, this is also possible. Contact us to avoid mistakes.
You can work in the field of public services, in lighting and energy companies, in automation companies producing everything from wind turbines to marmalade.
Automation engineers are responsible for the practical installation work, such as installation, commissioning, optimization and operation of automatic systems in the production environment. You can be Chief Technician, Control, Regulation and Monitoring Technician, Development Engineer, PLC Programmer, Project Manager, SCADA Programmer, Service Engineer, Programmer, CRM (Control, Regulation and Monitoring) Engineer, System Technician, Technical Manager, etc.
Personal opinion and practical experience
The program requires great dedication and strong desire. You will be a part of a new learning environment in which, in addition to theory and practice at the university, you also need study on your own if you want to perform well when presenting your projects (which is important for companies looking for such engineers). Currently, there is a shortage of automation engineers, which makes finding a job after graduation much easier. Depending on your performance in the company, in which you will have several months of practice, you can start working immediately after graduation. The starting salary of such engineer in Denmark without experience is 30,000 Danish kroner – about 4000 EURO. Although the training is quite intensive, the end result is totally worth it.
